Cashed up tradies targeted by the ATO

According to reports in the News Limited papers this morning, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) are about to crack down on accountants who they believe are assisting with tax evasion.

Tradespeople are specifically mentioned in the report as one of the main targets, and ultimately it is the tradies that will take the brunt of the ATO's wrath rather than the accountants.

The report states that "Tens of thousands of tradespeople could face tax audits after the Australian Taxation Office launched its biggest crackdown so far on accountants and tax agents whose clients operate largely in the cash economy."

The report also states that the main targets will include "small trade businesses such as electricians, plumbers and builders".

So why do tradies have to cop all of this heat when there are thousands of other businesses out there that also deal in cash? It certainly seems unfair to us.
