Many of our tradie clients request quotes for public liability and income protection, but only go ahead with the public liability, deciding that they don't need income protection.

But the facts show that you have more chance of needing to claim on an income protection policy than a public liability policy.

In a perfect world, everyone would have income protection that pays the maximum benefit each month with all the bells and whistles of the most comprehensive cover available. But the reality is, most people don't want to spend that much on insurance.

But some cover is better than no cover, and here's an example of how cheap it could be.

Peter is a 29 year old carpenter. He earns $100k a year, but thinks he could live on $600 a week in an emergency. For basic cover of $600 he pays only $9 a week, which is also fully tax deductible! And the cover is a decent policy with a well known Australian insurance company.

If you were off work injured or sick for a few months, could you keep paying your mortgage and car payments, and still put dinner on the table each night? Unless you were to raid your savings or rack up the credit card bills, the answer is probably no.
