Business Cards

With the advent of digital touch points such as websites and social media, and traditional tradie marketing material such as flyers and brochures, not much noise is made about traditional business cards. But a physical business card is still a great tool in a tradie’s tool kit.

Flyers, brochures and fridge magnets are great, but handing over a business card either before or immediately after completing a job makes a big impression and is a valuable touch point.

Business cards do get noticed! They are received, looked at, and the best part, once presented, can be handed on to another potential customer. Let’s face it – business cards are very easily shared. Not many people pull a magnet off the fridge and pass it to their friend who enquires about who they used to do their bathroom reno.

Why tradies need business cards

  • A business card provides all of your most important contact information.
  • Business cards can easily be added to flyers in mailings and promotions.
  • Even if you’ve just started up, business cards make you look professional and established.
  • A great design will stand out. Tradies not using business cards run the risk of being forgotten about when a job is completed.
  • Word of Mouth is a tradie’s best friend. Business cards passed out at BBQs and other social settings can easily make their way through a few sets of hands – people are always on the look-out for good tradies.
  • Business cards are convenient. They can be put in a wallet, purse or pocket.

A business card should include:

  • Business Name
  • Your name (if it’s different to the business name)
  • Business logo
  • Contact details – address, phone, after hours number, website
  • Stand out by listing your specialities.
  • Instead of just writing ‘builder’ also add: “deck and renovation specialist”
  • Or a tag line “The Southern Suburb’s Best Builder”
  • Or a recent award: “Sydney’s Best Plumber 2015”

What does your card say about you?

Sure the basics such as those listed above are required, but what does the style, colour, and design of your business card say about you and your business? These elements are just as important as the printed information that appears on your card and a good designer will ensure you maximise your investment.

Business cards are perfect for being passed out to customers, friends and family. Remember, the hardest working business cards are the ones not kept in the box. Get them into palms to make sure your business is remembered.
