Last month I had the privilege of sitting in a big room amongst hundreds of hard working, successful and driven trade business owners.

But there was no hi-viz in sight.  No way.  This was a genuine black-tie event, celebrating the efforts of these business owners and their teams.

I’ve done the same a few times now on the insurance side of our industry, but never on the client side, i.e. building and construction.

What really struck me about the night was a common theme in the speeches given by the winning businesses.

Of course winners thanked their teams, their partners, spoke about the hard slog that business can be, but they all had so many amazing things to say about PROTRADE United.

Now the whole event was for PROTRADE, so obviously they’re going to get some love, but this was different.  It was clear that whatever these guys are getting from being part of the PROTRADE family, it’s a big deal.

Feel free to track down PROTRADE right now to learn more about them, but I’ll stick to the awards for now…

So not only was I lucky enough to be sitting amongst these guys, meeting a few of them, and listening to their speeches, but I was also very honoured to present an award.

Not because I’m particularly special though.  It’s simply that Trade Risk was invited to sponsor one of the award categories!

Earlier this year we won the award for Best Customer Service at the Insurance Business Awards, so it was the perfect fit for us to present the Service Award.

Andrew Gold Landscape Architecture

There were some fantastic finalists, but the winner was Andrew Gold Landscape Architecture.  Well done Andrew!

It was a real honour to present the award to Andrew and have a chat afterwards.  Whilst landscape architecture isn’t one of the core client types that we’d typically look after at Trade Risk, it’s still clear to see the passion in how people talk about their businesses.

The other finalists in the service category included:

On behalf and Trade Risk I want to give another massive congratulations to all of the service category finalists.  Customer service should be at the core of everything we do as a business, and if you’re getting that part right, you really are on your way.

I won’t go through all of the other categories, but there were plenty of different deserving winners across many different trades.

Virtually all trades were represented, including electricians, plumbers, carpenters, builders, landscapers and other building and construction related businesses.

It was just great to be a part of it, and I left the night feeling so positive about our business and business in general.

If you’re still wondering who PROTRADE United is and what they do, please follow the link to their website and take a look.

I’m still learning myself, but from what I saw and heard on the night, I believe it’s something that any trade business owner should be looking into if they want to push their business to the next level and really create something special.
