Insurance for Brickies

We specialise in insurance for tradies in the building industry, and bricklayers make up a large number of them.

We assist self-employed brickies and bricklaying businesses with a range of insurance types, including public liability and income protection.

In this guide we’ll take a closer look at the various forms of business insurance for bricklayers.

Public Liability Insurance

As with most trades, public liability insurance is typically the most common form of insurance held by self-employed bricklayers.

Public liability will protect you in the event that your negligence results in property damage or personal injury to another person.

Property damage claims can be fairly minor.  For example you might be carrying some bricks past a customer’s vehicle in the driveway and accidentally scratch the paintwork.

Your public liability insurance would respond in this case by covering the cost of repairing the damaged paint.

Personal injury claims tend to be more serious.  For example you might be laying bricks on a second story and accidentally drop a brick, which then strikes a third party in the head.

This could be a very serious claim in terms of dollars, but with public liability insurance you’ll be protected.

The cost of public liability cover for bricklayers is relatively cheap, with premiums starting at around $400 for $5 million cover.

At Trade Risk we can provide brickies with instant quotes on public liability.  Click here for a quote.

Tool Insurance

As a bricklayer you might have fewer power tools than a carpenter or electrician, but you still have gear that needs to be protected.

Tool insurance can cover your gear from a range of risks, including loss or damage caused by fire or a vehicle collision.  It can also cover you for theft following forced entry.

At Trade Risk we only provide tool insurance when taken as a package with public liability insurance.

Income Protection Insurance

Being a bricklayer can be a very labour-intensive job.  So not only are you at greater risk of injury, but any small injury could keep you from working.

If you’re a self-employed brickie, and time off work is probably going to have a direct impact on your ability to earn an income.

Even if you’re on wages, sick leave is only going to last so long, and worker’s compensation isn’t going to cover everything either.

Bricklaying Insurance

This is why personal accident insurance is so important for bricklayers.

Personal accident insurance can replace a large part of your income for a period of time until you are able to return to work.

We can help to insure your ute, van or truck, whether it’s a single vehicle or an entire fleet.

We can also assist with any plant and machinery you have, such as excavators and other items that might not fall under the general ‘tool’ category.

For those taking on larger jobs, our expert brokers can assist with contract works insurance and contractual liability insurance.
