Important Information
As an insurance broker we use a range of different insurance and underwriting companies. Some are household names, whilst others are not well known outside of the insurance industry.
In the case of our online system, it is provided by a single underwriting agency, and they have a range of endorsements that relate specifically to data cable and pipe installers.
It’s important to review these endorsements, but please keep in mind they only relate to our online system. We do have access to other policies for cable installers that will have different endorsements. If you’re in any doubt, please call us on 1800 808 800 and our experts will be able to run through it with you.
The information below is a summary only and should not be fully relied upon. When you obtain a quote, scroll down to the endorsements section and you’ll be able to view the full wording.
EMF Exclusion
The policy will not cover you for any claim relating to magnetic electric or electromagnetic wave that results in actual or alleged diminution of property values.
We’ve never experienced such a claim from any of our clients, but it’s important to know.
Underground Work & Underground Services
Plenty of work involving data cabling will be underground, especially if you are working on the NBN.
Our online policy covers underground work up to 3 metres in depth from the surface. If you think you’ll be working at depths greater than 3 metres we can still assist, however it won’t be via our online policy. In this case please call us on 1800 808 800.
Even if you’re not physically working under the surface, the policy still has some requirements regarding underground services.
It is a requirement that before doing any drilling or excavation that you undertake the “Dial Before You Dig” process, as well as undertaking your work in a manner that minimises the chances of damaging any underground services.
It is important to document all of your efforts in locating and avoiding underground services.
Damage to Optic Fibre Cables
An additional excess applies to claims involving damage to optic fibre cables.
The excess will be 10% of the total value of the claim or $250, whichever is greater, up to a maximum of $2,500 per claim.
Computer Viruses, Data Loss and Date Issues
The policy won’t cover you for any claim involving computer viruses, loss of information or inability to access something via a computer or other device.
It will not cover any date issues relating to what was known as the “Y2K bug”. For our readers who are too young to remember the late nineties, this refers to computers and software which couldn’t cope with going from the year 99 (1999) to the year 00 (2000). This endorsement is probably not relevant now, but it is there.
We wouldn’t expect someone undertaking data cabling to be involved in any claim relating to this section, but it’s important to know. If you are undertaking work that could result in issues around viruses or data loss, please let us know so we can find a more suitable policy for you.
Use of Heat
If you are using heat for welding, cutting or other functions, there are certain precautions that must be met in order for the policy to cover you.
Those precautions are a little too specific to try to summarise here, so please refer to the endorsement section of the quote to view the full details.
One more warning – the above is just a summary of the endorsement which apply to the online policy. You must refer to the quote or the policy to view the full details of each endorsement.
