Whatever size motor trade business you operate, a broker can assist with your insurance needs.

The types of businesses a broker can help include the following:

  • Mobile Mechanic
  • Mechanical Workshop
  • Auto Electrician
  • Car Detailer
  • Panel Beater
  • Paintless Dent Removal

Whether your business has its own workshop or operates as a mobile business, a broker will know how to get the right cover for your needs.

If your business type is not listed above, still get in touch with a broker as they will most likely be able to assist.

Insurance Types

There are a number of different insurance types a mechanic or motor trade business will require.

The policies that you require will depend on the type of business that you operate.

If you are running a mobile car detailing business you may only require public liability insurance and a small amount of tool insurance.

If on the other hand you are running a large mechanical workshop, your insurance needs will be far more complex in order to protect your investment.

Some of the common insurance types that we assist mechanics and motor trade businesses with are as follows:

  • Public Liability
  • General Property
  • Machinery Breakdown
  • Theft
  • Business Interruption
  • Income Protection

Driving Risk Extension

Whilst the basic insurance policies for a mechanical business are no different to those used by other business types, there is one very important exception.

If you are driving your customer’s vehicles, then you need to ensure that your public liability insurance policy includes the driving risk extension.

Although a standard public liability policy includes damage that you cause to other peoples’ property, this does not extend to damage that you cause to a client’s vehicle whilst driving it.

By adding the driving risk extension to your policy you can cover this risk up to $100k or $250k depending on your needs. Other amounts may also be available on request.
